Nashville summers are hot, humid, and sometimes we get severe weather. Now that it’s fall, we’ve entered the perfect time to prepare roofs for winter. At Tim Leeper Roofing, we absolutely love fall! The pleasant temperatures, the warm sun, and the knowledge we’re setting people up for warm, cozy winters make fall work a true pleasure. In fact, there is no better time of year to get roofing work done. In our last blog, we shared two reasons why you should get your roof replaced this fall, including savings and damage prevention. Today, we have a few more reasons for you!dreamstime_xxl_38264935

Shingle installation temperature

  • Once temperatures get low enough, asphalt shingles get more difficult to work with. Cold shingles are brittle and can shatter while being fastened down. As a result, shingles have to be nailed down by hand rather than with a nail gun, which significantly slows down the process. It’s recommended that shingles be installed at temperatures of 26 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

Shingles need to seal

  • In our last blog, we talked about asphalt shingles and how they need natural heat to help them seal together. If they don’t have a chance to seal, they can blow off in cold winter winds. When you get asphalt shingles installed in the fall, the sun will melt them together, giving them a chance to form a water-tight seal.

Preparing your home to be warm and dry this winter is easy when you have help from a world-class roofing company like Tim Leeper Roofing.
