Roof replacement sits at the very top of the home maintenance pyramid, because it doesn’t matter what you do to the interior of your home if there’s no roof to protect it. At Tim Leeper Roofing, we fully understand the crucial role roofs play in Tennessee homes, and we take repairing, replacing, and inspecting roofs very seriously. That is why we are going to use the next few blogs to share what you absolutely need to know about roof replacement.

Basic Roof Materials

Fortunately, we just spent three blogs going over just this! Head back to learn more about the longevity of asphalt, slate, wood, and beyond!

Remove or Roof Over?

You have to decide if you are going to remove your old roof before installing the new one. We don’t recommend layering roofs for several reasons:

  • Weight – If you’re using asphalt shingles, their weight eventually adds up. Adding a fresh layer on top of the old one can cause significant structural problems for your home, especially if it’s old. If you’re considering a third layer, you’re actually considering putting the equivalent of a slate roof on your home’s frame. Don’t do it.
  • Telegraphing – Any issues with the old roof will immediately translate up through the new roof, perpetuating the issues. These are things like bubbles, waves, and bumps that undermine water flow.

In our next blog, we will go over a few more crucial points to touch upon before you get a new roof. Contact Tim Leeper Roofing for world-class roofing services in Tennessee!
